The Smallest and Most Damaging Mistakes Made by Sellers on eBay - Part 2 - Russell Darden

How can a small mistake, be one of the most damaging mistake? I've labeled it as such, because they are considered minor to a lot of sellers. But if not planned on or thought about carefully, they could damage your chances of making a lot of money.

For instance, when you go to an auction listing and see a Powerseller logo beside the userid of the eBay seller, what is one of the first things that you think of? Most people think that they all must make lots of money. After all, these are POWERsellers that we are talking about. Well the fact of the matter is, a lot of the Powersellers are struggling to make a profit. Not only that, ...some of them are even in debt. You have to remember, that whatever level of Powerseller they may be...that level is based on their gross amounts, not their net amounts! There are several reasons for them to be struggling like this, but one just seems to keep standing out. They are struggling to pay their depressingly high eBay fees!

Some Powersellers make over 10 sales a day, yet see no profit whatsoever because they are still trying to pay off lingering fees. A majority of sellers concentrate on selling and trying to get an income. They forget about and don't PLAN ahead on what the fees may be or what they can do to lower them.

Another small mistake that the seller makes, is not thinking about the customer at all. I mean, it is true that you can sell almost anything on eBay, but does the customer want to buy almost anything? Sellers are so eager to make money, that they don't take the time to do a market research. Instead, they look for products that THEY themselves like, Then they assume that if THEY like it, surely a lot of other buyers will also. HUGE mistake!

They also forget about when they themselves first came to eBay. They don't remember why most buyers come to eBay to shop in the first place. Most eBay buyers are looking for one of two things.

1 - They are either looking for a bargain, or

2 - They are looking for, or they find something that they can't get anywhere else.

For instance, I wanted to buy an mp3 player. I could go down to my local retail store and get one, But I figured let me check eBay first. I did a search and I came up with a wide choice. Many of them were priced between $0.99 and $10.00. They all had under an hour until the auction was over. I thought to myself, "this is great, I'll get a good deal". Then I looked at the shipping. Every single one of these sellers had overpriced their shipping. I work at the USPS, so I know. Their shipping quotes had been priced as high as $34.95! These jokers were trying to make up their costs by gouging the buyer with shipping. A few of them may make a sale, but the majority of them underestimate the intelligence of the eBay buyer. I ended up going to my local retail store and spent LESS than I would have buying from them.

I get so riled up when I think of how some of some of these sellers hurt themselves, by just tying to make that quick cash. If they would only stop to think and plan ahead, they could find other ways around these small mistakes. Here is a little tip for the buyers.
